Green Efforts: Honest Tea shows how a large beverage company can be green. Not only is its production extremely efficient, it also offsets all its energy usage. Honest Tea has incorporated elements of green building design in its offices and uses organic, fair trade, and natural ingredients. It also tries to source ingredients domestically or locally whenever possible. Honest Tea also uses lightweighted plastic bottles free of hazardous chemicals. Finally, and most impressively, Honest Tea reports the climatic impact of each stage of its production and transport for its ingredients and containers. Honest Tea is one of the few corporations who have made this effort in their environmental reporting. Green Issues: There is really nothing to nitpick here. The only area we would like to see some change is additional greening of their containers. As their own data suggests, maybe Honest Tea should avoid using glass bottles since their overall impact is higher. Ingredient Analysis: Honest Tea’s ingredients are natural, organic, and fair trade. The only ingredient with negative effects surrounding it is caffeine, which is safe in moderation. Greenopia Verdict: Honest Tea is the top performer in our beverage guide for the 3rd straight year. Honest Tea is the greenest beverage readily available in the marketplace today. |
