What We Do

Greenopia provides consumers with the means to make daily decisions that reduce their impact on the environment. Through our green business directories, product directories, community, news articles, blogs, and tips, we provide the information that is necessary to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Our Directories

Greenopia's directories guide consumers to the businesses and products necessary to eat, shop, and live green. All listings are independently researched using 62 unique sets of category-specific criteria, ensuring that each business and produce meets precise qualifications. We never accept payment for listings.

Our Ratings

The Greenopia Leaf Ratings allow consumers to assess the overall greenness of a business or product. Four-Leaf Rated listings meet our most stringent criteria while One-Leaf Rated listings meet our minimum qualifying standards. The Greenopia Product Scorecard allows consumers to easily see the specific areas greenness.

Our Community

Greenopia's community provides a place for people to engage in sharing their favorite listings, meeting other people, sharing their eco-interests, blogging, discussing green topics, and much more. Our newsletter provides a distinct opportunity to stay current with new listings, compelling articles, and exclusive opportunities.

Interviews
Rachel Pearson
      by Stef McDonald
Rachel Pearson started Speesees, a San Francisco-based line that features baby clothing that is cute in the best way possible—the colors are bright and items are adorned with animals and flowers that are just adorable enough (chicks, seahorses, dandelions). It’s made with organic, fair-trade cotton and low-impact or vegetable dyes so it’s good in all the right ways. Find Speesees products online or locally at Elephant Pharmacy and other shops. What inspired you to start your business?

My friend’s children.

What’s the best part about your job?

The range. And meeting all the interesting speesees along the way.

What are some of your favorite local green businesses?

We use New Leaf Paper for our Speesees catalog because they use the highest quality recycled paper around. Plus, I love the customer service. Going to Elephant Pharmacy is always a special treat because I always walk out with far more than I intended to buy. Everything is just so salubrious. I love Three Twins Ice Cream.

What is your favorite local green restaurant?

Weird Fish is my new favorite neighborhood spot. It’s funky, has creative decor, and the food is clean and no-nonsense with nice presentation.

Where do you shop for organic groceries?

The Good Life, Rainbow Grocery, Farmer’s Market.

What are some of the things you do to help make the world a little bit greener?

I try to find creative uses for things (there is a lot you can do with a plastic bag!). I also buy second-hand, rely on natural light, and drive a small, fuel-efficient vehicle.

What’s your favorite thing about living in the San Francisco Bay area? Least favorite?

Favorite: diversity. Least favorite: parking.

What would you say is the city’s undiscovered or underrated jewel?

Random vistas, like at the top of Hill Street.

Where do you like to take out-of-town visitors?

Weird Fish, local art shows, Mount Tamalpais, rollerskating in the park—it depends on the visitor.

What’s your favorite vacation destination? Do you prefer to kick back or explore?

India—to explore! There is so much to smell, taste, hear, touch, see…

What’s your favorite weekend outdoor activity?

Hiking, flea markets, picnics.

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

Redwood.

Describe your path to green. How and when did you became eco-conscious?

At the age of ten, my mother explained to me how long aluminum takes to break down in the earth—and the rest is history.
