Journey Into Green:
How did Edward come to be involved in Earth-conscious living?
The journey into sustainability has been an educational road of discovery and enlightenment. Co-owning and operating a landscape installation and maintenance service, Edward had a desire to learn more about the plants he was working with and expand his knowledge in the field of horticulture. Edward started taking classes in Horticulture Science from Valencia Community College under Professor John Centko. While taking horticulture classes, Edward worked in various capacities in the horticulture industry. For a short while, he worked as chief production agent at a tropical plant nursery. Soon after, he took another position at a native plant nursery and consulting/landscape installation firm, in which he specialized in native nursery production and wetland planting. It was here that he was first introduced to sustainability and the green concepts in the landscape. While continuing his education at VCC, he also studied sustainability concepts and in time, he earned a degree in horticulture sciences and became the manager of a native plant nursery. Working here for several years, it was a natural progression for Edward to again decide to further his education and he journeyed to the University of Florida to pursue a five year degree in Landscape Architecture. It was here that he further studied sustainability and the proper design of plants in the landscape, as well as the creation of space, proper planning and architectural design classes. After graduating, Edward worked in several different firms, working on various types of projects ranging from health care to residential, always specifying native or proper adapted plants, advocating for “the right plant for the right place”. Continuing to study about sustainability, Edward became a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional). With this accreditation, Edward began RETHINK RESOURCES to provide his expertise in sustainability to others as a service. Also providing eco consulting for homes and offices, Edward bridged the gap from the exterior to the interior and now can further the concept of sustainability by providing additional services for the inside. Edward can provide a Green Make Over for either a Home or an Office and can instruct home and business owners on beneficial aspects for money savings and environmental considerations.
