Last night, West Hollywood launched a little bit of good, green living. Attending the book celebration of Anna Getty’s “Easy Green Organic” cookbook, we got a glimpse at all deliciousness that is Ms. Getty’s green world. The event featured Josie Maran makeup artists providing complimentary makeovers (I may never wash my face again…), O.N.E. Drinks serving up a special coconut milk with 360 Degree Organic Vodka. Nicobella Organics offered up chocolates while we sampled sips from Frey Vineyards. And all the while, guest feasted on items from Akasha (and the cookbook) like Cold Sesame Soba Noodle Salad and delicious Dried Cranberry and Hazelnut Macaroons.

And in the middle of this eco-celebration, thrown by Rachel Sarnoff of Ecostiletto.com, the green glitterati of Hollywood mingled full force. Josie Maran told us how she first met Anna in a prenatal yoga class: “Anna’s been a huge influence in starting my own organic lifestyle. I tasted her food and it was amazing.” Actress Ali Larter told us about her own organic lifestyle, explaining that she gets most of her food from area farmers markets and tries to eat almost exclusively organic. And Balthazar Getty was present to support his sister’s new book.

Anna credits her childhood to her organic leanings. As she writes, “I grew up eating lentil soup, whole-wheat pasta, and nutritional yeast flakes when those ingredients were virtually unheard of in most American households.” She sees the kitchen has a great place to start greening you and your family’s life. As Anna tells it, “It is the hub of our homes, where the action takes place. It’s where most products enter our homes, and where the largest amounts of waste leave them.” Below, Anna tells us just what it means as mother to provide wholesome, organic food for her child.
And how is the book itself? I found Anna’s cookbook to be a delightful step-by-step introduction on not only how to eat green but go green. Want to know which fruits you should avoid due to high pesticides counts? Anna has a list. Did you know kosher salt and lemon juice will remove tea stains from your cups? I didn’t either. Frankly, as a person who spends 80% of day reading about green products, I found a lot of useful tidbits of knowledge that I had never heard before. Which I why I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to take things to the next green level in their homes.
And just what will we be eating with Anna Getty? Try her Double Lemon Chicken Breast with Fresh Tomato Basil Salsa. Or Pear and Blueberry Crisp with Brown Sugar Sour Cream. Or perhaps some Cold Sesame Soba Noodle Salad followed by Ginger Risotto.
You can find Anna Getty’s Easy Green Organic online or better yet, your local bookstore.
