As reported in the Washington Post, this week MoveOn.org is launching ads critiquing three Senate Democrats—Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.)-—who've co-sponsored Sen. Lisa Murkowski's (R-Alaska) resolution blocking the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. The ads are going to be shown in Arkansas, Louisiana and Nebraska.
Check the ad out above, which compares voting against Clean Air to exposing young children and babies (and the rest of us) to cigarette smoking. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane, cause climate change are not currently regulated by the EPA. Recently the EPA has been given the power to regulate them, a huge step in meeting international climate agreements. Republicans and Conservative Democrats assert that the regulations will cost businesses too much.
The transcript of the ads (the Senator's name changes according to where the ad is broadcast) is: "While Senator Nelson works to roll back the Clean Air Act/ Many Americans are already smoking the equivalent of a pack a day/ Just from breathing the air/Senator Nelson: We need the Clean Air Act/ Leave it alone.
