One of the best parts of Fall/Winter is the layers; from beautiful hats and scarves to legwarmers, boots, sweaters and coats, keeping comfortable during colder temperatures is easy if you are able to shed (and add) as you move through your day. Knits are an easy way to do that, not to mention super-comfy. Organic wool, yak, hemp, and alpaca are more sustainable alternatives to the traditional knit materials, and look great too (see below)!

Made from a variety of brightly colored organic wools, this scarf is handmade in Chicago and is wide enough to be used as a wrap over a coat or sweater.

Hess Natur's Aran-knit sweater is actually made of yak wool, so not only is it incredibly warm, but surprisingly light too (yak wool is simllar to cashmere). The color shown is the natural color of the yak wook (it's undyed) and yaks are a lower-impact animal to raise than sheep, adding to the eco-cred of this classic sweater.

The Deux FM Lhasa sweater coat can be used as a coat on warmer days or to keep warm by the fireside on the coldest days of the year. Available in black and electric blue, this knit piece would definitely become a go-to for almost any wardrobe.

The Nixxi wrap is a gorgeous oversized sweater that can be worn a multitude of ways. Wrapped or left open, the 100% organic wool will work just as well with jeans and a turtleneck as with a short skirt and blouse for work.

This oversized vest by Popomomo is ideal for layering over a short skirt or shorts (pair with fun knit stockings) or with skinny jeans; the exaggerated silhouette should be paired with something simple and slim-cut underneath. Made from 55% hemp/45% organic cotton fleece, this made-in-LA vest is a perfect season-changing piece.
