The best part of being a kid isn’t school or play time or having the metabolism to eat all the ice cream you want. It’s being able to go to summer camp! (Or at least it is for the intentions of this article.) And so many of us cultivated our love of the outdoors at summer camp. So in honor of the pretty places that first inspired us all, here’s our look at some of the loveliest summer camps you’ll find on the map. (Or the internet.)

Camp Ouareau

This girl’s language camp is situated in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada.  This sunset does Canada proud – clearly, it’s taunting its southern neighbors to top it.  No word on if any state has yet to come through, but my money is on California.

Shaffer’s High Sierra Camp

This camp is located in the Tahoe National Forest of northern California.  It also boasts part of the 2,000 mile Pacific Crest Trail, so hikers can enjoy views like this after keeling over exhausted.  (Or maybe that would just be my experience….)

Evans Lake Summer Camp

This is another Canadian camp, located in North Vancouver.  You know you’re in a picture postcard place when you’ve got the awesome mirror lake-thing going.

Ekone Summer Camp

This camp is “located on 1300 acres of permanently protected forests, meadows, and steppe at the edge of the Columbia River Gorge in south-central Washington State.”  Campers can learn to live totally off the grid.  Sign me up!

Camp Hess

Located just north of Malibu, this camp reminds us why southern California is so heavily populated.  Who wouldn’t want to live so close to such beauty?

Brown Ledge Camp

This girl’s camp located in Colchester, Vermont, offers “theatre arts, horseback riding, water sports and land sports.”  And it offers up Vermont in the summer, which means Ben & Jerry’s factory seconds ice cream is sure to be nearby.  Nature and cheap ice cream – has there ever been a better combination?

 Rock Brook Camp

This camp for girls “is located in the western mountains of North Carolina near Brevard in Transylvania County.”  They offer traditional hiking sports, but also cooler temperatures at a higher altitude in the summer.
