Spring's Most Fabulous Eco Shoes

Skipping through the spring meadows of this season’s eco shoes, I found some incredibly cool kicks.  (Found with a little help from Ecoshoesource.com, an excellent blog by green shoe fashionista Arlene Bahar.)

So for anyone who thought eco-shoes were some sort of flatware only to be worn hiking through a stream, get ready to have your eyes wide opened.

Here’s our look at the top green shoes to get your spring feet styling!

Three-Strap Sandals by Vivienne Westwood and Melissa

These high fashion, couture sandals are designed by fashion icon Vivienne Westwood and developed by eco-shoe pioneers Melissa Sandals.  Ethically manufactured in Brazil, these sustainable slippers are made entirely from recycled plastic.  And they are the prefect sandals to ease your winter feet into warmer weather.  (Am I the only one who doesn’t like to go from boots to open toe overnight? Anyone?)

Puma Sandals by Neuaura

Neuaura is another fantastic eco-footwear line out of Brazil.  Among other things, this company recycles all material factory waste, uses water-based adhesives and less toxic solvents, and sources as many local products as possible.  This fabulous silver thong sandal is made entirely from synthetic leather with a German rubber sole.

Duna Heels by El Naturalista

These colorful red kicks by El Naturalista are free of hazardous chemicals and made from recycled materials whenever possible.  Rated three out of four leaves by Greenopia, these shoes are nontoxic and are made with natural dyes.

Odessa T-Strap Sandal by Sui Generis

This classic, elegant sandal is from the Sui Generis line from Beyond Skin.  Beyond Skin is an exclusive, English ethical footwear label “that trades in a manner that is non-exploitative to humans, animals and wherever possible the wider environment.”  They also practice sustainable, recycled packaging and donate a percentage of profits to a selection of ethical charities.

Alexa Boot by Cri de Coeur

These stylish, open-toed boots are from Cri De Coeur, a line made “entirely free of animal products, and as environmentally friendly as technology will allow.”  They have also partnered with thecarbonfund.org to offset all carbon emissions.

Jeanie by Terra Plana

Terra Plana is a line with a goal of “urban respect and eco-sustainability whilst producing shoes that are good for your feet.”  It seems more like their goal is adorable, fashionable heels that look like they’re off a Paris couture runway.  These heels have vegetable-tanned leathers to add to their sustainability, and they use recycled memory foam in the insoles.  Comfortable, cool, and green.  Does it get any better?

Organic Espadrilles by Stella McCartney

These 4-inch perforated organic heels from Stella McCartney are the best of eco-couture.  (And the most expensive.)  McCartney has made en effort to incorporate sustainable, eco-friendly products into her high-end lines.  In 2008, she was named the first Green Designer of the year at the 12th annual Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards.

Tigerlily Wedge by zoe&zac for Payless

Not ready to throw down $500 on your eco-shoes?  We’ve got you covered with these adorable kicks from Payless.  From their eco-line zoe&zac, these sandals have a “100% organic cotton upper, an adjustable sling back with a nickel and lead-free buckle and a 1.5-inch woven wedge made from natural jute and hemp.”  Did we mention they retail for $19.99?  So there’s no excuse why your feet can’t go green this spring!
