Don’t mind a little sun with your sweat sessions? Whether you already exercise outdoors or are finding it tough to drag yourself to the gym, Boot Camp SF is the change of scenery your body has been looking for. Started by certified fitness instructor Keith Wohlwend, Boot Camp SF now has twelve different instructors (Keith included) meeting at seven different locations in San Francisco and one in the East Bay near Lake Merritt. Most locations feature workouts in the morning and evenings during each six-week session.
Though the name might sound a bit intimidating, this is nothing like army boot camp. Yes, you will be pushed hard, but you will be encouraged, not insulted. Each exercise session is split into co-ed groups based on ability, so you won’t have to try and live up to the triathlete who doesn’t know what chocolate cake tastes like. They key to Boot Camp SF’s success (and yours?) is old fashioned calisthenics – running stairs, doing push-ups, carrying logs … you know, the stuff real athletes have been doing for centuries. Not only will you get a tough, professional workout, you’ll also be saving on electricity by burning calories outdoors – let us not forget the great view either.
There are nearly 10 different price plans to choose from, many of which include nutritional guidance as well. You can also get a BCSF shirt, diet feedback, advanced fitness assessment and more. And the only carbon you'll produce will be from your own heavy breathing. Take your workout and eco-appreciation to the next level by getting outdoors for a good sweat – camouflage optional.
