I don’t know about you, but now that the weather is getting nicer and everything is green, blooming, and colorful, I can’t stop thinking of great green home additions I could invest in…and nothing is hotter than brining the indoors out right now.

Here are a few creative and awesome home addition projects ranging from “DIY this weekend” to “better start saving my pennies”.

Expanding Balcony:

Are you an urbanite living in a cramped apartment? The Bloomframe from Hoffman Dujardin Architects. Dornob.com says, “Perhaps best of all, this unit is designed to be a simple retrofit on existing buildings. Imagine the value impact on an already-built-out dense urban area like Manhattan where every extra square inch of property has an impact on the overall cost of a place.”

Build a Deck with Biocomposite Decking:

Decks are the be-all, end-all way to taking the indoors outdoors. If you’re going to tackle building a deck, go one step beyond composite decking and use biocomposite decking, like the kind from Heartland Biocomposites. Don’t forget to check out the oh-so-many benefits of biocomposite wood materials from Heartland Biocomposites.

Sliding Barn Door Sun Shades:

If you’ve got a lot of windows or glass doors, especially west-facing ones, at your house, check out these DIY sliding barn door sun shades from Michelle Kauffman Designs. These stylish and modern shades will help keep your home cooler while providing both interesting exterior aesthetics and interior light filtering.

Greenscreen Modular Trellis Panels:

Via Jetson Green, these modular trellis panels from Greenscreen provide an almost endless configurations of living wall space. You could do anything from adding privacy to a patio, to creating a living fence, or maybe even mount them right on the exterior of your house!

EnergyStar Qualified Patio Enclosure or Sunroom:

Patio Enclosures, Inc is seemingly the only company of it’s kind who’s helping you expand your living space in an eco-friendly way. Their Earth Smart enclosures tout many EnergyStar qualified features that not only help the planet, but also your health….and of course the value of your home too.
