  On the planes only the cans are recycled. The program is run by Wings, a non-profit by the Flight Attendants, not American Airlines, although AA takes the credit. Nationally only 12 airports recycle. The rest of the cans are thrown in the trash. This is a logistical challenge. Same goes for why the plastic and newspapers are not recycled on the planes.
