We never accept payment for listings.
The Greenopia Leaf Award allows consumers to easily assess the overall greenness of a business or product. Four-Leaf Rated listings meet our most stringent criteria while One-Leaf Rated listings meet our minimum qualifying standards. The Greenopia Scorecard allows consumers to easily see the specific areas of greenness in the product’s or brand’s life cycle.

Delta Average Fleet Age: 14 Greenopia Environment Achievement:

Efforts: Delta recently received an award from the EPA for its recycling efforts (it has arguably the rest recycling policies of any major airline) and Delta has a LEED certified terminal in Boston. The average fleet age of Delta is slightly higher than average, coming in at around 14 years. Delta uses winglets on some of its planes which help reduce fuel consumption. Lastly, Delta does offer carbon offset services when you purchase a ticket. These offsets come in a variety of projects ranging from the good (methane recapture) to the not so good (reforestation). Issues: Delta has below average environmental reporting for the industry, with most of its environmental information coming from its environmental blog. This makes it very hard to compare Delta to companies who are much more transparent. Delta also has yet to seriously address any alternative fuels and does not offer any green food alternatives on its flights. Greenopia Verdict: Kudos to Delta for their impressive strides in recycling, but the lack of attention on other environmental issues pushes them lower in our rankings. |
