Sure, we promote the healthy and the organic and the fresh here at Greenopia, but that doesn’t mean canned, preserved food doesn’t deserve a shout out. After all, canned food has been around since man could wield a tin can opener. But sealing food in an airtight container to prevent microorganisms from entering and proliferating inside isn’t just for potatoes and peaches. Check out our look at some of the weirdest, wackiest, and wonderful foods that people have put to tin. (And don’t mind our use of “weird” – after all, it’s a matter of taste and if you like canned creamed possum, who are we to judge?)

So as not to be outdone by hot dogs, all-American cheeseburgers have stepped up to the can. (Except they are made in Germany and are “cheeseburger in der Dose). You can get meat, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and buns – all encased in tin.

Shout out to the vegetarians! Feeling like something sweet? Check out this canned grass jelly from Taiwan. Spread it on some organic whole wheat bread and you’ll never know it came off a lawn. Or it will taste like….lawn.
