Interviews
Chanel Jenae
      by Stef McDonald
As the product formulator and esthetician at Arcona, Chanel Jenae works magic on the skin of those who come in for treatments—and those who leave with products from the truly natural skincare line. "We think about how everything on the body goes in the body," she says of her passion for skincare that is pure and healthy. Jenae talked to Greenopia about her work and living green in L.A.

Best part of your job?

Working with so many wonderful people and making a difference in people’s skin and their self-confidence.

What is your favorite local green restaurant?

Real Food Daily. The food is simply fantastic and is always very fresh and healthy.

Where do you shop for organic groceries?

Wild Oats, Erewhon, Diamond Organics (online).

What’s your favorite thing about living in the city? Least favorite?

I have a few favorites: the ocean, the mountains, and definitely the weather! My least favorite thing is the traffic.

What would you say is the city’s undiscovered or underrated jewel?

Ezai Floral Design in Santa Monica. The owner, Ing, is truly an amazing artist with flowers.

Where do you like to take out-of-town visitors?

Zuma Beach, the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, and the Getty in the Pacific Palisades.

What’s your favorite vacation destination?

Kona, Hawaii, at the Four Seasons Hualalai.

What’s your favorite weekend outdoor activity?

Being together with my family and friends—and allowing myself not to be scheduled!

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

A flowering plum tree, of course. It’s beautiful with gorgeous bark and flowering blossoms. Also, it bears sweet, antioxidant-rich fruit.

Describe your path to green: how and when you became eco-conscious.

I was born and raised in Berkeley and that opened my eyes to so much at a very early age. My aunt owned a health food store in the early '70s and I always loved spending time there. I was fascinated by all the goods and customers that came in. The city and my parents exposed me to yoga, vegetarian food, and social responsibility. Great minds, diversity, openness, and education are abundant in that area.
