Each summer SolFest transforms the rural hamlet of Hopland, California, into the global epicenter of green living. Our main stage, family stage, and six workshop tents are filled with world-renowned speakers, musicians and artists, offering keynotes, panels, performances, and over fifty one-hour workshops. The leading developers and distributors of green products and services are here too, sponsoring and exhibiting in hundreds of booths and displays that fill our beautifully landscaped grounds for these two magical days.

    Cave Concerts featuring Kirtan (chanting) with Jai Uttal & Alan Tower

Date: 9/13/2008
Time: 9:15pm
Location: Hawk Hill Cave overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge at the Marin Headlands Conzelman Road Sausalito, CA 94965
Description:

A unique and unforgettable evening of sound and spirit...

Join co-sponsors, The Green Music Network and BayKeeper, for the 8th annual epic journeys of sound in the Hawk Hill Cave overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.

On September 13th connect with "Kirtan" (chanting) in the cave with Jai Uttal and special guest Alan Tower. Embark on a vocal journey through the sacred sounds of ancient India with this call-and-response group chanting and storytelling. Jai Uttal creates a space of invocation, prayer, and heartfelt expression.

Drawing from an unbroken tradition of Indian devotional singing, Jai will introduce the ancient practice of "kirtan" (or chanting), the heart of devotional yoga. This meditative practice of calling to the divine creates a bridge between the individual and the eternal, opening the heart and welcoming the spirit. Jai will relate stories from the spiritual epics of India as well as from his personal experiences to create a modern context in which to explore this tradition.

"These ancient chants," writes Jai "contain a transformative power and healing energy. By singing these prayers and expressing a full range of emotions through our voices we join a stream of consciousness and devotion that has been flowing for centuries."

Join us for these melodic meditations of new sound and witness the cave itself become a part of the sonic journey. Cave opens at 8:30pm. Hawk Hill Tunnel is off Conzelman Road in the Marin Headlands. Location: Santa Monica, CA. All conference events will be held at the Sheraton Delfina (530 W. Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, California 90405).

Our members include the leaders of the rainwater harvesting movement in the United States for the past 10 years, and people who are novices. ARCSA's annual conference is a great opportunity to learn the latest trends in rainwater harvesting while networking with others in the field. Santa Monica was chosen because of its forward-thinking initiatives that encourage the collection and reuse of rainwater. Attendees will include landscape architects, designers, engineers, home builders, state environmental leaders, city and county code and building enforcement officials, and do-it-yourselfers. Register for the 2008 National Conference today at www.arcsa.org.

    Cave Concerts featuring Karashay with Stephen Kent (didjeridu master)

Date: 9/20/2008
Time: 9:15pm
Location: LOCATION: Hawk Hill Cave overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge at the Marin Headlands Conzelman Road Sausalito, CA 94965
Description:

An unforgettable evening of sound and spirit...

Join co-sponsors, The Green Music Network and BayKeeper, for the 8th annual epic journeys of sound in the Hawk Hill Cave overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.

Few musical folk styles have caught the western public imagination in the last decade so much as the amazing throat singing of Tuva. This group of musicians from Tuva, a small Russian province north of Western Mongolia, will fill the cave walls with the resonating low sounds of "throat singing," which creates a middle note and a haunting flute-like harmonic. Atmospheric and mesmerizing, "throat singing" is almost too difficult to describe in words. They will be joined by the Bay Area's own internationally acclaimed Stephen Kent on the didjeridu who brings his unique sound and sense of rhythm to the interplay.

Join us for these melodic meditations of new sound and witness the cave itself become a part of the sonic journey. Cave opens at 8:30pm. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Arrive early for enough time to park, walk and experience the beauty of the surroundings before concert begins. Hawk Hill Tunnel is off Conzelman Road in the Marin Headlands. Description:

Councilman James F. Gennaro, Ariella Rosenberg Maron and Greenopia’s Janna Olson

New York City residents are already quite green by U.S. standards in that, due solely to our population density and high reliance on public transportation, we consume far less energy per capita than the average American. The New York region in many ways birthed modern environmental movements in the ’60s (Storm King, Jane Jacobs) and has been at the forefront of many environmental initiatives since. It is now home to many growing, thriving communities of green activist and community groups, entrepreneurs, builders and designers and enlightened government officials.

We are entering a new era. Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030 is the first serious green plan in our city’s history. But, there are many challenges. What will it take to create an authentic eco-city that can be a model for the world? Come join some of New York City’s leading green figures in an exploration of the potential, the problems and the way forward: NYC Councilman James F. Gennaro, Ariella Rosenberg Maron and Janna Olson.

Media Gallery: High resolution images for print use

OK so you’re tired of that feeling that you are mortgaging your future when you fill the gas tank of your car. Tired of being dependent on fossil fuels and looking for ways to create a future for your family that does not use your entire paycheck up to simply stay warm and keep the lights on. Looking to create a greener life for yourself and your family by switching to environmentally friendly products.

There are thousands of entrepreneurs who have been thinking about all this and creating products around the notion that we can build a sustainable future for ourselves and for our planet. The folks at Going Green Magazine are working to bring many of them together to let you learn the latest and to start making plans for your own green future.

For Example: Did you know that many solar companies are now offering financing as a part of their packages? Did you know that simple changes to the appliances you choose can save you hundreds of dollars a year in heating costs? Did you know that there are many cosmetics, detergents and other household products that are much safer for the environment than those most often found on your supermarket shelf?

Features of the Expo:

More than 100 exhibitors from renewable energy and green building companies to healthy living products and green gifts will provide educational opportunities as well as the traditional “wow” factor;

Eco Moms and Dads will love the Green Kids Zone, sponsored by Oakhurst Dairy with activities for children of all ages. Take the kids over for a break or watch as they sit down to make recycled bird feeder with the friendly folks from Oakhurst;

Green and Renewable Energy and building will make up a large portion of the exhibitors as well as the content for the workshops;

A Green Education Zone will introduce you to schools and colleges with special sustainability programs and green learning opportunities,

Green Transportation, including the new hybrid from Chevy and the Chevy Hydrogen fuel cell car as well as scooters, human powered vehicles, and more will provide visitors with some green alternatives for their everyday driving needs;

Green Bazaar Gifts and Products, just in time for the holidays will provide you with the opportunity to “go green” with your Christmas shopping;

On both Saturday and Sunday we will hold a very special Eco-Fashion show co-produced by two of New England’s rising stars in the sustainable fashion industry: Meghan Newton of Conway and Tara Lynn Scheidt of Burlington. VT.

We’re also working on an “Art of Recycling” Exhibit that we hope to premier at the Expo.

Music, speakers and Free Workshops all day long will round out the experience;

Admission is $6.00 for adults, children under 12 free with the following secret code: Oakhurst Milk Comes from Happy Green Cows! OK, OK, they are free no matter what, but it’s a whole lot of fun to get them to use the secret code.

Date: 11/15/2008
Time: 9:30am-5:00pm
Location: Civic Auditorium and Church Street Santa Cruz CA
Description:

When you think about Santa Cruz, you think of words like “organic,” “sustainable” and “environmentalists.” When the rest of the country was just on the cusp of the green movement, Santa Cruz was already entrenched. The City of Santa Cruz, along with a collaboration of government agencies, non-profit groups and businesses who care about the concept of thinking globally and acting locally, are creating EcoFest Santa Cruz. The event will educate the public about what it means to “go green” and embrace what Santa Cruz proudly possesses: People who care about the forests, the beaches, and their city and want to be stewards of these resources to preserve them for future generations.

The City of Santa Cruz will be highlighting its environmental programs and proudly displaying the positive impact its work has created for the City. There will be several environmentally-themed tracts. The event will also serve to inform the public of all the wonderful local companies that are already taking a stand for the environment and changing and innovating to create sustainable practices that look beyond profit to the world around them. Prominent experts will be holding seminars throughout the day inside the Civic and at the themed areas located throughout the event. “How-to” seminars and live food demonstrations will also be featured. A keynote speaker will address attendees at the opening of the event inside the Civic. Exhibitors who are invited to participate will be required to demonstrate that their service or product meets Eco Fest’s green matrix certification. (Requirements to be determined and will be listed on website.)

Outside the Civic, we are celebrating the Earth and the abundance around us. A Farmer’s Market will showcase local organic foods and farmers will be discussing the importance of buying local produce. Organic wineries, breweries and beverage companies will be providing delectable samples of their products, along with information about sustainable farming and business information. We are inviting a variety of vendors who will be providing a host of green products, food, resource materials and inspiration to the public.

Our Children’s Green Grass Roots Area will teach children through multi-media, hands–on exhibits about the how–to’s and importance of composting, recycling, natural resource management and conservation.

We will have a “Music Moves The World” entertainment stage with local bands and community groups providing live music throughout the day.
