Honda led the way for mainstream hybrids when it released the Honda Insight in 1999. The insight was eventually discontinued, but I am happy to report it is being brought back in 2009, and Honda is still going to great lengths to be a green leader in the automotive industry. The average mileage of a car in Honda’s fleet is 28 miles per gallon giving one of the best overall scores and the best average fleet mileage of any car company with 10 or more models. Honda also has 8 cars in its fleet that get at least 30 miles per gallon on the highway and has a variety of alternative fuel cars in the making including compressed natural gas and hydrogen fuel cell cars. This complements their already available Insight, CR-Z, and Civic Hybrids and Honda has other hybrids in the works as well.
