Chickadee's interests, passions, hobbies and favorite activities, etc.
I'm a self employed field ornithologist in love with the wide open spaces through which the birds fly. For the last 3 years I have been studying the effects prescribed burns on prairies have on the avian community. I love birds, bird conservation, birdwatching. But I do have other interests - very interested in environmental history, namely, our impact on the earth. History of the American West and history of the American Indians also intrigues me. I enjoy writing and photography as well as traveling.

Journey Into Green:
How did Chickadee come to be involved in Earth-conscious living?
It began when I started volunteering for an organization involved in bird conservation and continued in earnest when I returned to college here later in life. I took an Environmental History class and several Sustainability type classes, and learning more about the state our world is in as well as our animal friends.

I love Nevada Barr books, the "Anna Pigeon" novels...mysteries set in National Parks solved by a nature loving, resourceful, strong, independent woman who has demons in her closet. I also enjoy the books by the anthropologist/archaeologist husband wife team Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal (sp) Gear. They pick a particular time period and weave history into the fiction of a native tribe. And I watch way too much TV - Big Bang Theory, The Stargates, Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters, The Office, Eureka, Psych, Dirty Jobs. But I also love NPR: Car Talk, Diane Rehm show, Fresh Aire
