Founded in 2006, TeachingGreen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people reduce the environmental impact of their personal and professional lives. We believe that where the environment is concerned, individuals have the power to create a sustainable society, not only through the choices they make as consumers, but also in the ballot box and by pushing for change in the institutions they are a part of. We provide comprehensive, empowering environmental education to people of all ages and interests to help you live an environmentally-friendly lifestyle that can be enjoyed indefinitely into the future.

Our mission is guided by three main goals:

  1. Raise awareness about our most serious environmental problems
  2. Encourage people to consider the environmental impact of their day-to-day activities
  3. Help people adopt a lifestyle that sustains, rather than depletes, Earth’s natural resources.

Programs

The Green Life: Workshops for Sustainable Living

These workshops for residents, businesses and high school students help people to reduce the environmental impact of their personal and professional lives in the areas of transportation, food, home & garden, solid waste and toxic chemicals. Workshop participants take home The Green Life: A Guide to Sustainable Living, which contains hundreds of tips and resources to save energy and water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, help cleanup local waterways, keep toxics out of our homes and the environment, reduce the need for logging, etc.

Individuals are invited to join us at public workshops scheduled at various locations around town. Businesses, community groups, high schools teachers, etc., give us a call and we'll schedule a presentation (or series of presentations) specifically for your group.

Growing Up Green: Presentations for Kids

Still in development, this program will provide free in-class presentations for students in grades K-8. In addition to learning about the many ways that humans depend on, as well as alter, natural systems, children will become empowered to help their parents/guardians become Earth-friendly consumers.
