All listings are independently researched, rated, and ranked using unique sets of life cycle based and category-specific criteria, ensuring that each business and product meets precise qualifications. We never accept payment for listings.
The Greenopia Leaf Award allows consumers to easily assess the overall greenness of a business or product. Four-Leaf Rated listings meet our most stringent criteria while One-Leaf Rated listings meet our minimum qualifying standards. The Greenopia Scorecard allows consumers to easily see the specific areas of greenness in the product’s or brand’s life cycle.

Honor Roll: Colorado State has good environmental reporting and is a part of the ACUPCC, but its data was not available as of the time of this writing. Colorado State has 2 LEED buildings with several more in the process of obtaining LEED certification. Most impressively is that all new buildings must receive LEED Gold, making Colorado State one of the most stringent schools in the country for green building design. Colorado State also boasts a very impressive 51% recycling rate and it also has a good composting program. The campus purchases 3 million kW of renewable energy and about 12% of its food options are local or organic. Colorado State is striving to be carbon neutral by 2020 and many of its service vehicles run on biodiesel, hybrid, or straight electric engines. Lastly, Colorado State is above average in regards to its water conservation policies in regards to facilities and landscaping. Held After Class: The most disappointing thing about Colorado State is the very low amount of green food items available. Considering how sustainable the rest of the school is, this number could be much higher than it is. We also wouldn’t mind seeing slightly more comprehensive environmental reporting. Green Grade: Strict green building standards, renewable energy, and a great recycling rate place Colorado State amongst our top 5 schools. |
