Green Efforts:
Corona is one of the best selling imported beers in the US and has some environmental clout to boot. Corona had some of the best environmental reporting we came across in the beer industry. Corona has done a good job decreasing its impact per unit of production over time and has shown steady improvement in most environmental indicators. Corona has made some effort to green its packaging and utilizes a biogas recapture system in its building to reduce its energy and emissions impacts. Corona also sources a fair amount of its electricity from renewable sources (>10%). Finally, Corona has one of the lowest water consumption rates per unit of production of any beer maker.

Green Issues:
Corona does not have organic beers to speak of and we were unable to find any data pertaining to any transportation efficiencies that the company does. Also, although it does have some packaging efficiencies, we would still love to see a major beer maker move away from heavy glass bottles. There are many preferable alternatives to glass and we would love to see some innovation in this regard.

Greenopia Verdict:
A solid showing from Corona makes it one of the greener major brands out there. Hopefully they will stay the course and continue to decrease their impact.
