Greenopia Environment Achievement:
|
|
Green Efforts: Another one of the beer giants, Anheuser-Busch, has several beer labels that are easily recognizable. Anheuser-Busch has very good environmental reporting for the beer industry, reporting all the major metrics we were tracking for this study. It has also done a good job decreasing its impact; specifically its water usage per unit of production is good for the industry. Anheuser-Busch currently has 2 organic beers available for sale which is nice to see, even if it represents a small chunk of their total offering. Anheuser-Busch has a LEED certified plant, with a few more somewhere in the LEED process. Anheuser-Busch also uses a small amount of solar energy, renewable energy making up about 8% of its portfolio. Green Issues: Like most beverage companies, Anheuser-Busch has not done much to green its bottles (other than some light-weighting). They are, more or less, standard glass fare and there are much greener alternatives available. We would also like to see a stronger commitment to renewable energy and organic beers, but Anheuser-Busch is off to a solid start. Greenopia Verdict: Anheuser-Busch scores well in our analysis and it has continued to improve each year. Hopefully this trend will continue in the future. |
