What We Do

Greenopia provides consumers with high quality information to help them reduce their impact on the environment through their daily purchasing decisions. Greenopia publishes extensive green business directories, product directories, and brand directories, as well as offering a growing community, news articles, blogs, and tips to help everyone eat, shop, and live green.

Our Directories

Greenopia's directories guide consumers to the businesses and products to help lead a more sustainable lifestyle. All listings are independently researched, rated, and ranked using unique sets of life cycle based and category-specific criteria, ensuring that each business and product meets precise qualifications. We never accept payment for listings.

Our Ratings

The Greenopia Leaf Award allows consumers to easily assess the overall greenness of a business or product. Four-Leaf Rated listings meet our most stringent criteria while One-Leaf Rated listings meet our minimum qualifying standards. The Greenopia Scorecard allows consumers to easily see the specific areas of greenness in the product’s or brand’s life cycle.

Our Community

Greenopia's community provides a place for people to engage in sharing their favorite listings, meeting other people, sharing their eco-interests, blogging, discussing green topics, and much more. Our newsletters provide an opportunity to stay up to date with compelling articles, press releases, exclusive opportunities, and the newest, hottest, and greenest listings.

Honda led the way for mainstream hybrids when it released the Honda Insight in 1999. The insight was eventually discontinued, but I am happy to report it is being brought back in 2009, and Honda is still going to great lengths to be a green leader in the automotive industry. The average mileage of a car in Honda’s fleet is 25.81 miles per gallon giving one of the best overall scores and the best average fleet mileage of any car company with 10 or more models. Honda also has 7 cars in its fleet that get at least 30 miles per gallon on the highway and has a variety of alternative fuel cars in the making including compressed natural gas and hydrogen fuel cell cars. This complements their already available Civic hybrid and Honda has other hybrids in the works as well.

From a reporting standpoint Honda has an impressive sustainability report. Honda tracks numerous environmental indicators including energy and water usage, material composition, recyclability, hazardous chemicals, emissions, and waste. Honda has set clear goals for the reduction of these environmental indicators and has significantly reduced their chemical emissions, waste, and energy and water use per vehicle produced. This means Honda has become more efficient in the production of its vehicles in most of its indicators. Honda’s Life-cycle reporting is robust and shows a true interest and dedication in reducing their overall impact. Thirteen of Honda’s fourteen plants in North America and 80% of its suppliers are ISO 14001 certified.
