United Average Fleet Age: 13 Greenopia Environment Achievement:
|
|
Efforts: United’s average fleet age is in the middle of the pack at 13 years. United is beginning to incorporate recycling on its flights and has installed winglets on some of its aircraft to help reduce fuel consumption and therefore emissions. United also has some ground vehicles that run off of alternative fuels. Issues: United’s environmental reporting is slightly below average, but still decent (better than many of the ones we come across in other industries). United does not have any LEED certified terminals or office buildings. As of this time, United does not have any sort of carbon offset service for passengers and we could not find any information to suggest that United is pursuing any alternative fuels. Also, United does not offer any green food alternatives on its flights. Greenopia Verdict: In order to move up this list, United needs to give the option to buy offsets and implement other green initiatives. |
