About Mramone:
Mramone's interests, passions, hobbies and favorite activities, etc.

I’m committed to a green lifestyle: I recycle, buy organic, drive a Hybrid and Bike around town. I believe in supporting alternative-energy and overall, strive to be an eco-conscious consumer. I am working on several sustainable projects from Eco-Architecture to Green Cars. Have Greened my own home with Solar Panels to cover our electricity, removed my green lawn to save thousands of gallons of water and researched 100's of Green products during my renovation. I am here to meet more lovely conscious people!

Journey Into Green:
How did Mramone come to be involved in Earth-conscious living?
I have been conscious since High school and am devoted to lessening my footprint. Personally, I am trying to educate and get the word out: As a TV Director / Documentary Directory by trade, I have Produced Green TV programming from Eco-Architecture to Green Cars to help everyone learn about alternatives. I recently renovated my own Home in Venice for PLANET GREEN on "Greenovate" TV series. I live in bohemian Venice Beach which is known to be an artsy community at the beach and although it is in Los Angeles - it doesn't feel like it. Here we wear flip flops and go out casual. We surf and roller blade and because our toes are in the sand quite often, we tend to be aware of our environment. I own 2 original 1940's bungalows, each only 900 sq ft in size and on a small lot. I guess you can say that we are in close proximity which makes it communal living but I am proud to ALREADY have a small footprint! Being a Greenie, I have always tried to do what I can to lessen my footprint and wanted my tenants to learn more about green. I make it a point to bike ride around our neighborhood, to the store, to visit friends, and even to our local bars, restaurants, and art galleries. I like to think of myself as conscientious because I recycle, have an organic garden, and carry my own sassy canvas re-usable canvas bags when shopping at my local FM (Farmer's Market). But one day I wanted to do more and decided it was great to have a Green Lifestyle but I wanted us to be in a Green home too! I Greened both of my small bungalow homes. Over the next 3 months, I found myself going into Green Guru Mode, figuring out how to recycle as much as possible and having to source green materials for my bungalows. I kept all of the materials I could (re-used my kitchen cabinets, refinished the original hardwood floors rather than buying new ones, refinished furniture and fireplace mantels instead of throwing them into the landfill, etc.). Going green doesn't mean bringing in a bunch of new "Green Bling" but keeping what you can and making it better! I spent 3 months researching products to be sure that they were safe and eco-friendly. I also did a lot of the work myself so I know the products 1st and because I used them and know they are safe. I painted with No VOC clay paints, stripped the fireplace with eco stripper, stained furniture with all natural wood stains and sealers. I worked with my contractor Travis to educate him and his team be sure he was using all Green sealers, adhesives and thinking in a new way -- construction can be green. We rolled up our sleeves and got dirty! I feel it is only fair to share the info I gleaned from 600 hours of research with you. The more homework I did, the more I found Green pervasive. It seems as if everyone is on the bandwagon and preaching to be "good for the environment," but you gotta ask the hard questions (isn't there a No VOC paint rather than just low VOC? Is the manufacturing of these products green? What chemicals are in each product? Is the packaging wasteful? Can I find it locally? How can 3 people save on precious resources like water and energy in already small houses? There are many solutions for all types of budgets. GO TO MY WEBSITE TO SEE WHAT I FOUND: ..... WWW.SYNERGYPRODUCTIONS.TV Our GREEN MAKEOVER was pretty extensive, but each part is important and you can do it in steps and within your own budget. OVERALL, we managed to offset 90% of our energy with Solar PV (DWP offered rebates so check with your provider). We saved thousands of gallons of water with high performance - 1.6 gal ultra low flow toilets, shower heads, faucets and new drip irrigation (anyone can do this!) . We saved 30% energy with our tank less water heaters and installing a new Cool roof. TIP OF THE DAY: PLASTIC is one of my pet peeves. I surf here in So. Cal and am constantly pulling out plastic bags from the ocean and am picking them up off the streets. So glad Heal the Bay and others have raised awareness about plastic pollution and hope everyone takes their canvas bags when they shop. Small steps add up!
