I'm interested in working to make the community I live in more sustainable and I believe education is a key ingredient for successful sustainability initiatives. As such, I allocate as much time as possible to local nonprofit groups that have an education component around my hot button issues. I've planted trees with TreePeople, given beach talks for Heal the Bay, and participated in community outreach with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. My only regret is I wish I could do more because there is a real sense of connection to the local environment and the people that share the same space whenever I get involved.

Recommendations:
Ron Durgin's favorite books, movies, TV Shows, environmental organizations, or local community groups.
My recommendation is once you've gained the knowledge about sustainability from reading books, watching videos, etc. get out and become active so your understanding of these issues in your community continues to grow. We need people with passion from awareness building to policy making to resource conservation efforts. Don't just read about it or watch from the sideline, get involved.
