What We Do

Greenopia provides consumers with the means to make daily decisions that reduce their impact on the environment. Through our green business directories, product directories, community, news articles, blogs, and tips, we provide the information that is necessary to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Our Directories

Greenopia's directories guide consumers to the businesses and products necessary to eat, shop, and live green. All listings are independently researched using 62 unique sets of category-specific criteria, ensuring that each business and produce meets precise qualifications. We never accept payment for listings.

Our Ratings

The Greenopia Leaf Ratings allow consumers to assess the overall greenness of a business or product. Four-Leaf Rated listings meet our most stringent criteria while One-Leaf Rated listings meet our minimum qualifying standards. The Greenopia Product Scorecard allows consumers to easily see the specific areas greenness.

Our Community

Greenopia's community provides a place for people to engage in sharing their favorite listings, meeting other people, sharing their eco-interests, blogging, discussing green topics, and much more. Our newsletter provides a distinct opportunity to stay current with new listings, compelling articles, and exclusive opportunities.

Check out Mother Earth's own celebration of the New Year. This New Year's Eve sunset view of frozen Colibita Lake...

Obama's Cabinet Choices: Eco Friendly or Not?
Any green warrior worth her Nature Conservancy membership was over the moon this past Election night. I'm not saying Obama is going to be the green messiah, but he was a heck of better eco-choice over the other team that ranted "Drill, baby, drill" and their convention and later featured their VP interviewed in front of a limp, lifeless...

Snow-free Winters - A Blessing or a Curse?
Disclaimer: I was born in Indiana. That means I have experienced all four seasons, including the beauty and majesty each one has to offer. Having lived in San Francisco for the past 2 years, many of my friends and family assume that I love being snow-free during the winters. Wrong! At first, the idea of having no snow to shovel or...

Don't Dump It
As consumers, we go through a lot of stuff and generate tons (literally!) of garbage every day. Nowadays it's easy to ensure that it doesn't all wind up at the dump. Why: "Every day the city takes 3,500 tons a day to the landfills," says Cynthia Ruiz of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works. "We have only one earth and only so...

Be Green, Save Green: Five Basics for Winterizing Your Home
The leaves are changing color, the days are getting shorter, and old people are talking about how "brisk" it is again. It's definitely Autumn, and while that means Halloween, football and bonfires to some people, it also means winter is just around the corner. While you may be excited about skiing or hockey or something, or depressed about months of no sunlight and freezing your butt off, what...

The Eco Gentleman's Shaving Kit: Back to Basics
Yesterday I began to think back upon those heady days of yore. I mean the halcyon days of the late 90s. Twas a simpler time, hearing the soon to be classic anthems of Britney Spears, Blink 182 and the immortal Lou Bega. And yet, lurking in the background with perfectly gelled hair spiked above the forehead and one fingernail painted black was a coming plague. Metrosexuality. Championed by...

Where's That Meat From, Anyway? New Law Requires Label
Countless shops and grocery store chains are featuring local produce for their customers. Since not all of us can make it to a farmers' market on a weekly basis, this is a dream come true for locavores. But many times, it can be hard to tell where food comes from if it's NOT local. As of September 30th, all food manufactures and stores will be forced to comply with a new law that requires origins...

Green or Greenwashing: What NOT to Buy This Holiday!
Unless you boycott Christmas like my one friend who's really cheap, you likely have quite a few presents to pick up yourself. But we can't just go out and buy anything can we? We've got to think about what we're buying, what kind of impact it's going to have on the environment. I can't pretend to tell you what you should buy for your friends and family. I have no idea who they are or what...
